The undergraduate atmospheric sciences certificate has four tracks. The operational/applied meteorology track meets both federal civil service course requirements, the American Meteorological Society's guidelines for meteorologists, and the American Meteorological Society curriculum for degrees/certifications in Atmospheric Sciences, such as the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) or Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM). Most students select the operational/applied meteorology track and major in Geography (B.S. degree program). The climate science and natural resources hydrology tracks are specifically designed for students who want professional training or wish to pursue graduate education in those areas. The engineering hydrology track is designed for students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering.

All tracks require 30 semester hours of course work in atmospheric and related sciences. A student must earn a minimum of a “C” in all certificate courses. (The grade requirement does not apply to prerequisites.) A minimum certificate GPA of 2.5 is required. The certificate must be completed in conjunction with an appropriate major, with the exception of students who already have an appropriate UGA undergraduate degree. Interested individuals should contact the undergraduate coordinator at 706-542-2856.
